Most people on Thenak are honest. These simple steps protect you from the few who are not.

Money

Never pay an advance or deposit before you have seen the property and met the owner.
Do not send money by bank transfer, eZ Cash or mCash to someone you have not met.
Get a written receipt for every payment.

Visiting

Meet in daylight and take a friend or family member with you.
For the first meeting, a public place is best.
Tell someone where you are going.

Documents

For land and houses, ask a lawyer to check the deeds, the survey plan and that the seller is the real owner.
For rentals, sign a written agreement that lists the rent, the deposit and the notice period.
Be careful if the price is much lower than similar places.
